Built Environment Sub-Committee Application

Help make Peterborough more accessible.

Are you interested in joining a committee that advises how to make buildings, parking lots and their walkway networks more accessible?

Volunteers are needed to join the City of Peterborough’s Built Environment Sub-Committee, a sub-committee of the City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee

Role

The Built Environment Sub-Committee meets six to eight times per year to review applications submitted to the City for approval of development and construction projects. It takes approximately 30 minutes to review each application, depending on the complexity of the proposed development. The committee also reviews building and site details for new construction and renovation projects related to City facilities. Recommendations from the Committee are shared with City staff.

Eligibility

Applicants must be people who live, work or study in Peterborough and have an interest in accessibility issues, have a declared disability, or work in Peterborough for a community agency that supports people with disabilities. People with expertise in architecture or civil engineering are also invited to apply.

Deadline

Please complete this form or send a letter of interest by Friday, October 29, 2021.

How to apply

Apply online using this form, or submit a letter of interest by mail or email.

City staff will review letters of interest for eligibility and forward letters to the Accessibility Advisory Committee for review.  The Built Environment Sub-Committee includes representation from people with lived experience, people with technical expertise and people who work for community agencies that work with people with disabilities. City staff will notify the successful applicants. There will not be an interview process.
