Tree Removal Bylaw 21-074 Permit Application Form

Important Notices:

1. Anyone who wants to remove a tree or trees on private property, if the tree has a diameter of at least 7.5 centimetres or more measured at breast height, must submit an application to obtain a Permit.

2. How to calculate the tree diameter at breast height:

   To provide diameter at breast height use a tape measure, first measure 1.37 m from the ground or base of the tree. At this height 137 cm or 1.37 m (4.5 feet) above the ground level (this is an average person’s breast height) measure around the tree trunk to get circumference and divide that number by 3.14. This will give you the diameter (width of the tree trunk).

   A multiple trunk tree will be considered as one tree. The diameter of the tree shall be determined by combining the diameter of the stems measured at breast height.

3. There is a $15.00 fee to submit this application. There is a Permit Fee of $150.00 required when healthy trees over 15 cm in diameter are being removed on private property or any size City tree.
4. This form will only allow you to submit an application for a maximum of five trees. Contact Urban Forestry staff if you have more than five trees to be removed.
5. Permits will not be issued for the removal of City trees or where all the Owners have not consented to the tree removal.
6. All application fees and permit fees are non-refundable. In the event that a permit is not issued your fee will not be returned.
7. If you are unsure about any information required to complete this application you should consult with a Licenced Tree Service Provider.
8. You will be required to plant a replacement tree or trees and/or pay a fee to facilitate replacement planting for the removal of a healthy tree or trees.
9. If there are any jointly-owned boundary trees it is the responsibility of the Owner to obtain the the other owners/s consent before submitting an application for the proposed tree removal. 
10. Once the permit is issued it will be vaild for 90 days. No extensions are allowed.
11. Processing times will be based on the accuracy and completeness of the information provided.

In order to start the application review the online application form must be completed entirely. All application boxes are mandatory and a permit fee may be applicable.

About the application

1. To complete this application, you will have to provide detailed information about the tree(s) being removed, including the tree species, the diameter at breast height of each tree being removed, the health and condition of the tree(s).
2. You can upload photographs of each tree being removed and a sketch or drawing of where the tree(s) is located on your property.
